What are SEO, GEO, and AEO?

SEO, GEO, and AEO are three branches of the same discipline: making sure that when someone asks a search engine or an AI assistant a question you can answer, you show up in the response.

SEO: Search Engine Optimization

SEO is the practice of making a website rank in search engines like Google. It covers technical health (speed, crawlability, metadata), content that matches what people search for, and authority signals that make engines trust the site.

GEO: Generative Engine Optimization

GEO is the practice of making a business visible inside AI-generated answers from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. It relies on structured data, quotable answer-first content, and entity signals that AI systems can extract and cite.

AEO: Answer Engine Optimization

AEO is the practice of structuring content so answer engines (featured snippets, voice assistants, and AI chat) can lift it directly as the answer to a question. Concretely: real questions as headings, self-contained answers in the first sentence, and FAQ markup that mirrors the visible page.

The problem

Ranking on Google is no longer the whole game

People now ask AI assistants for recommendations before they ever see a results page. Most sites are optimized for a search world that is shrinking.

Invisible to AI answers

Your customers now ask ChatGPT and Google AI who to hire. If your site has no structured data and no quotable answers, the AI recommends someone else, and you never see the lost lead.

Clicks are shifting upstream

AI Overviews answer more queries on the results page itself. The sites that survive the shift are the ones engines can cite as the source, not the ones that only ranked.

Broken foundations

Duplicate titles, missing canonicals, schema that contradicts the page, a staging noindex left on at launch. Most sites bleed rankings from defects a proper audit finds in a day.

Content without a structure

Publishing blog posts without a topic cluster, internal links, or a page for each service you sell means the effort never compounds. Engines reward architecture, not volume.

What you get

One engagement covering the technical, structural, and content work, delivered in your codebase by engineers.

Technical SEO audit & fixes

A full crawl of your site: metadata, canonicals, robots directives, Core Web Vitals, redirects, and sitemap health. Every defect ranked by impact, then fixed in your codebase rather than handed back as a PDF.

Schema & entity architecture

One coherent JSON-LD graph across your site: your business declared once as an entity, every page contributing facts by reference. This is what AI engines actually parse when they decide who to cite.

Answer-first content (GEO/AEO)

Pages restructured so the questions your buyers ask are answered directly, in self-contained language an answer engine can lift. FAQ markup mirrors every visible answer.

Site architecture & internal links

Service pages, hub pages, and topic clusters arranged so authority flows to the pages that make you money, with descriptive anchor text engines can follow.

Performance engineering

Core Web Vitals treated as an engineering problem: LCP, CLS, and INP measured and fixed at the code level. We build the sites we optimize, so nothing is out of scope.

A baseline that includes AI

Search Console and analytics wired up properly, plus a snapshot at handoff of where you stand: rankings, traffic, and how AI assistants answer the questions that matter to you.

Need deeper engineering first? We also audit AI-built apps and build sites from the ground up. SEO is strongest when the site under it is sound.

The proof

This page is the portfolio

We could show you screenshots of other people’s rankings. Instead, open this page’s source. Everything we implement for clients is implemented here:

  • Exactly one h1, with a logical h2/h3 cascade and no skipped levels
  • Unique title and meta description, front-loaded and within length limits
  • Self-referencing canonical and an explicit robots directive
  • Open Graph and Twitter Card tags for clean share previews
  • One JSON-LD @graph: Organization, Service, WebPage, BreadcrumbList, FAQPage
  • Schema generated from the same data that renders the page, so it cannot drift
  • Semantic landmarks: skip link, header, breadcrumb nav, main, footer
  • Answer-first sections an AI engine can quote verbatim
  • Crawlable text links with descriptive anchors, nothing hidden behind JavaScript
  • No WebGL and no render-blocking scripts: the largest contentful paint is text

When we say “perfect SEO,” this is what we mean. It is what your pages will look like to a crawler when we are done.

Client proof

Proof in the wild

Lighthouse is Google’s own page-quality audit. Here is how a client site we engineered scores on it today.

Palo Alto Speedometer

A luxury gauge-restoration business whose previous provider warned that animations would slow the site down. We built the animations anyway, and built them right. The scores on Google’s audit, measured , are on the right.

“We were told not to do all the bells and whistles from another IT guy because it would slow our site down. Michael made the perfect and eloquent website with all the bells and whistles, and it runs perfectly.”
Lleyton Delzell, Palo Alto Speedometer

Noble House

A repeat client: two sites delivered for their international finance group.

“We have worked with Michael on two websites now, and both times he has been prompt, courteous, and highly professional.”
Noble House, repeat client

Little Big Room

The Los Angeles studio of a producer with credits for Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Jay-Z, and seven years as lead mixer for American Idol.

“One of the best experiences I've had on Fiverr. From that first meeting all the way to the final delivery, the entire process was smooth, professional, and well thought out.”

How it works

From audit to handoff, with honest answers the whole way.

  1. 1

    Audit

We crawl your site and baseline everything: technical defects, metadata, schema, rankings, and how AI engines currently answer questions about your space.

  2. 2

    Fix the foundations

Engineers fix what the audit found (metadata, canonicals, schema graph, Core Web Vitals) at the code level, in your actual stack.

  3. 3

    Build answer authority

We restructure content around the real questions your buyers ask, wired into a topic architecture that compounds.

  4. 4

    Verify & hand off

Every change is validated before handoff: rich results tests, Search Console checks, and Core Web Vitals. You get a clear before-and-after picture of where the site stands.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SEO, GEO, and AEO?

SEO makes your site rank in traditional search results. GEO (generative engine optimization) makes your business visible inside AI-generated answers from tools like ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. AEO (answer engine optimization) structures your content so answer engines can lift it directly as the answer to a question. They overlap heavily: the same clean structure, structured data, and answer-first content feed all three, which is why we deliver them as one service.

Do AI engines actually send customers?

Yes, and the share is growing. AI assistants increasingly answer "who should I hire" and "what is the best tool for X" questions directly, citing a handful of sources. Businesses that are cited get the referral and the trust; businesses that are not are invisible for that query. GEO is about being in that handful of citations before your competitors are.

How long does SEO take to show results?

Technical fixes are typically recrawled and reflected within two to six weeks. Ranking and citation improvements from structural and content work usually take three to six months to compound. Search is never instant, and anyone promising overnight rankings is guessing. We will be straight with you about what to expect for your site.

Do you work with existing sites, or only sites you built?

Both. We audit and optimize sites on any modern stack, and because we are an engineering team, we implement the fixes ourselves rather than handing your developers a report. If your site needs deeper rebuild work first, we will say so. That work is our core business.

How does the engagement work?

It starts with an audit, which produces a ranked plan. From there most clients use pre-paid support hours: you buy a block of hours and we work through the plan, so you pay for work delivered rather than a retainer. Book a call and we will scope the audit on it.

What makes this page an example of your work?

This page implements everything we provide: one h1, unique metadata, a self-referencing canonical, an explicit robots directive, Open Graph tags, a JSON-LD graph covering the business, the service, the breadcrumb, and this FAQ, semantic landmarks throughout, and answer-first copy. Open the page source and compare it against any competitor’s services page.

Be the answer, not the alternative

Tell us what you do and where you want to be found. We will audit where you stand today, on Google and in AI answers, and show you exactly what it takes to get there.
